Panchayat-level federations for providing aid to SHGs
Staff Reporter
PUDUKOTTAI: Panchayat-level federations would be formed in five villages in the district for providing credit facility for the women members of self-help groups, the District Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar said.
Presiding over the ‘Mass contact day’ programme held at Arimalam village in the district recently, the Collector said that the federations would be formed in Manamelkudi, Keezha Panaiyur, Irundirapatti, Kunavaipatti and Poyyamani villages.
The banks would sanction micro-credits to these federations which would, in turn, release the loans to the women members of self-help groups.
The Collector appealed to the villagers to make the most of the concept of the SHG for availing themselves of revolving fund and other credit facility from banks.
Pointing out that the district registered poor rainfall, the Collector specifically appealed to the farmers to insure their crops, so as to be eligible for adequate indemnity.
Assistance distributed
Ms. Thakkar distributed assistance to the tune of Rs. 3.29 lakh to the villagers. She also gave away house-site pattas to 78 beneficiaries on the occasion.
The District Revenue Officer R. Mahendravel; the Arimalam Town panchayat president Somu were among those who spoke.
