‘Kids Corner’ on municipal website
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Karnataka produces approximately 5,000 tonnes of municipal waste every day, and while the disposal of waste is one the obligatory functions of municipalities, it requires the cooperation of people from various walks of life.
Recognising that initiation into waste management begins with children, the State Government has started a “Kids Corner” in the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) website, municipaladmn.kar.nic.in, on the occasion of Children’s Day.
On this website, children can find information on various issues regarding solid waste management (SWM) and participate in an online quiz, play games and solve puzzles. They can also contact the DMA on questions regarding SWM, said an official press release.
This is part of a range of activities taken up by all municipalities for popularising and educating schoolchildren on the SWM programme.
