Chennai: IOCL’s Rohan Bopanna served his way to the PSPB inter-unit tennis title, defeating defending champion Sunil Kumar Sipaya (IOCL) 6-4, 6-4 in the final at the SDAT Nungambakkam Stadium on Friday. A break in each set was all Bopanna required to complete the win. The left-handed Sipaya was overwhelmed by Bopanna’s power, even if he did manage to impress in spurts. As is his wont, Bopanna volleyed deftly and forced his opponent into errors, with clean and precise strokes. Sipaya matched his opponent in the business end of the second set. Bopanna’s serves were briefly inconsistent, but Sipaya didn’t consolidate enough to push it to a decider. Bopanna made it a double, when he partnered Saurav Panja to beat Sipaya and Divij Sharan 6-4, 6-3 in the doubles final. The results (finals): Men’s singles: Rohan Bopanna (IOCL) bt Sunil Kumar Sipaya (IOCL) 6-4, 6-4. Doubles: Bopanna / Saurav Panja (IOCL) bt Sipaya / Divij Sharan (IOCL) 6-4, 6-3. Districts on topCombined Districts held the advantage after day one of the under-14 cricket match against City at Hosur. Electing to bowl, Districts dismissed City for 129 before responding with 84 for one by stumps. The scores: City 129 (Anirudh Ragavan 34, K.
