Kamarajan impresses for Indian CC

TIRUCHI: V. Kamarajan returned figures of four for three as Indian CC defeated Gorden CC by 44 runs and entered the quarterfinals in the Tiruchi DCA qualifying knockout cricket tournament here.

The scores: Pre-quarterfinals: Nine Star CC 107 in 26.4 overs (N. Saravanan four for 11) lost to RKV CC 108 for one in 13.4 overs (K. Murugesan 47).

Kailasapuram CC 161 in 29.5 overs (C. Sairam four for 44) bt NIT ‘B’ CC 101 in 20.3 overs (L. Antony Baskar four for 37).

Indian CC 118 in 28.2 overs (G. Muthukumar four for 26) bt Gorden CC 74 in 23.3 overs (V. Kamarajan four for three).

Imayam Arts and Science College 110 in 27.1 overs (S. Vigneswaran four for 19) lost to Mary Gold CC 111 for four in 28.1 overs.

Easy for Blood Reds

Blood Reds Football Club thrashed Peelamedu Football Club 7-0 in its opening fixture of the Coimbatore District Football Association ‘A’ division league at the Nehru Stadium, Coimbatore, on Friday.

Gopinath and Vincent Raj Manickam struck a double each, while Karthikeyan, Rajkumar and Bakthavatchalam scored one apiece.

The results: Venu FC 3 (Ranjith 25, Muniraj 37, 74) bt Young Hunters FC 0, Blood Reds FC 7 (Karthikeyan 11, Gopinath 26, Rajkumar 31, Bakthavatchalam 71, Gopinath 72, Vincent Raj Manickam 75 & 80).

Thambiraj’s hat-trick

Thambiraj scored three goals as Universal FC defeated BHEL Community Centre 4-1 in a Tiruchi DFA first division football league match in Tiruchi.

Livin was the other scorer for the winner, while Kumar reduced the margin.

Districts on top

Combined Districts held the advantage after day one of the under-14 cricket match against City at Hosur. Electing to bowl, Districts dismissed City for 129 before responding with 84 for one by stumps.
