Fourteen records set on the second day

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fourteen records fell by the wayside as sports hostel trainees dominated the proceedings on the second day of the State schools aquatic meet at the Water Works swimming pool here on Friday.

Eleven records were set by wards from sports hostels even as Thiruvananthapuram educational district extended its lead at the top.

The notable performance of the day came from T.R. Rahul of Centralised Sports Hostel, Nanniyode. Rahul broke the five-year-old record in junior boys’ 800m freestyle. Rahul clocked 9:24.25s to earse S. Arun Kumar’s record (9:38.61) set in 2003. The SAI Thrissur’s 4x100m freestyle relay squad also broke a five-year-old record in the senior girls’ category. They clocked 4:40.91s to better their own record (4:50.15) set in 2003.
