On diabetes

Diabetes is now an epidemic. Its long-term consequences lead to enormous human suffering and unseen costs to the nation in terms of disease burden. Lifestyle changes, early detection and treatment are the need of the hour. The print and visual media can play a noteworthy role by publishing and beaming messages on the need to monitor and control the metabolic disorder.

The Indian pharmaceutical industry has come of age and can help in better control of diabetes by introducing cost-effective medication and home-monitoring glucometers.

H.N. Ramakrishna,

Bangalore
