Kozhikode: Praising the police initiative in Kannur, where a large number of country-made bombs were seized during a raid on Thursday, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy said here on Friday that the search operations and raids for bombs should not be one-sided or partial to set political scores. “Raids should be held without any political bias or confined to any political party,” said Mr. Chandy, who was talking to presspersons at the District Congress Committee office here. The Opposition Leader, who said that complaints had already been voiced by different quarters that the raids were being conducted in a partisan manner, said the police should act without looking the face. “No bomb-amassers, whichever party he/she may belong to, should be spared,” he said. Mr. Chandy said the special package in the cooperative sector, declared by the Central government for States, after reviewing the Vaidyanathan Committee Report, by the Asim Dasgupta panel, should be implemented in Kerala as well immediately. “Only Kerala, Goa and Himachal Pradesh are yet to accept this package,” he said. He said more than 95 per cent of the Indian States had already agreed to this. Mr. Chandy said Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran, who accused Mr. Chandy of opposing the implementation of the Vaidyanathan Committee Report, was hiding several facts. Asked about the chances of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)’s entry into the UDF, Mr. Chandy said there was no such item in the agenda of the Congress at the moment. “The word has to come from the High Command, which only takes a decision in consultation with the State committee of the party, and nothing has happened so far,” he said.
