Roses have been used to create a map of Karnataka and the busts of the seven Jnanpith award-winners from the State have also been displayed. “We are presenting over 20 varieties of flowers grown in the district. We started preparing for the event six months ago by cultivating various flowers inside the premises,” said Assistant Director of Horticulture B. Devaraj. Elaborating on the event, he said over 20 kinds of bonsai plants, an equal number of indoor plants and 60 types of fruits and vegetables were being displayed. Special gardenA special garden for the display of cactus plants has been prepared. He said the objective of the event was not only to provide an opportunity to the people to appreciate floral beauty but also promote floriculture in the district. “With the event, we want to emphasise that even in a dry place such as Chitradurga, people can adopt floriculture with minimum effort and the right guidance,” he said. Mr. Devaraj said the department also wished to encourage people to go in for kitchen gardens and indoor plants. Through Ikebana (arrangement of flowers), people could earn a reasonable amount of money. He said the exhibition would be on till Sunday.
