Bopanna, Sipaya in title clash

Chennai: IOCL’s Rohan Bopanna and Sunil Kumar Sipaya will clash in the final of the PSPB inter-unit tennis tournament at the SDAT-Nungambakkam Stadium. Bopanna defeated Vijay Kannan of ONGC 6-2, 6-0, while Sunil Kumar overcame IOCL’s Saurav Panja 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals.

Easy for ABM

ABM Infotech defeated HVF Avadi 7-3 in a Chennai Hockey Association first division match at SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Wednesday. Gopinath (3), Jagan (3) and Raja scored. For HVF, Gopi and Manish found the target.

In another contest, RBI edged out Air India 2-1. Stephen scored a brace for RBI while Praveen Kumar scored for Air India.

Chess training DVD

Emmanuel Chess Centre will launch Winning Moves, a chess training DVD at the Russian Culture Centre on Friday, to mark its 12th anniversary.

PWC Davidar, Secretary, Information Technology, TN government is the chief guest. The guests of honour are Stanislav I. Simakov, Director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture, and Ashvin Dhyriam, Managing Director, Good News Channel Pvt. Ltd.

Prizes will also be distributed to the winners of the chess tournaments held in commemoration of ‘2008 — The year of Russia in India’.

Moopanar memorial race

The fifth G.K. Moopanar memorial road race will begin at ICF Bus terminus at 6.30 a.m. on November 16. The categories are boys and girls (u-17, 5 km) and above 17 (men and women, 7 km). Subramanian, Anandan top

R.V. Subramanian and C. Anandan finished first in the North-South direction in the TVS Lucas & TTK Group Alumni Club monthly bridge tournament. S. Ganesan and C.R. Kumar finished first in East-West.

Bhaskar, Jerome shine

A. Bhaskar took five wickets as Frank Worrell slumped to 38 all out and lost by eight wickets to Thiruvallur CC in a recent Thiruvallur DCA first division match.

In second division, twelve-year-old A. Jerome scored an unbeaten hundred to guide Parthasarathy MCC to a nine-wicket win over Stag CC.

I div.: Frank Worrell 38 in 19.1 overs (A. Bhaskar five for 12) lost to Thiruvallur 39 for two in 4.5 overs.

II div.: Stag 173 for eight in 30 overs (R. Naresh 50) lost to Parthasarathy MCC 177 for one in 25.1 overs (A. Jerome 103 not out).

Korattur 109 for nine in 25 overs lost to Stag 110 for five in 23.4 overs.
