Manjrekar XI posts win

MUMBAI: Vijay Manjrekar XI overcame a first innings deficit against Khandu Rangnekar XI to win outright by 56 runs at Vengsarkar Academy in the third and final round of the 23rd Sportstar Trophy U-19 Selection Trial tournament on Thursday.

Himanshu Santholia (43) and Gaurav Suryavanshi (32) put on 66 runs for the ninth wicket, helping Manjrekar XI set a 179 target. Rangnekar XI was bowled out for 122, two runs more than the first innings total.

Fast bowler Sahil Madgaonkar (3-43), leg-spinner Suryakumar Yadav (3-22) and left-arm spinner Santholia (2-24) were among the wickets.

With this win, Manjrekar XI gained four points to top the four-team round-robin league, ahead of Dattu Phadkar XI which was 14 for no loss, chasing a huge target of 436, at stumps on the third day of the four-day tie against Vijay Merchant XI.

Merchant XI declared its second innings at 323-5 at Fort Vijay ground, Azad Maidan, with contributions from Shalabh Agarwal (47), Rahul Tondulkar (68), Rohan Tendulkar (85) and Rajeev Kamath (59). The fourth-wicket stand worth 111 runs in 125 balls between Tendulkar (85r, 158 b, 246m, nine fours) and Kamath (59r, 70b, 108m, eight fours) proved decisive.

The scores: Vijay Manjrekar XI 100 & 198 (Nikhil Patil 41, Gaurav Suryavanshi 32, Himanshu Santholia 43; Digvijay Singh threee for 61, Pratik Sargude three for 54, Siddharth Prasad four for 34) bt Khandu Rangnekar XI 120 & 122 (Javed Khan 37, Gurcharan Yadav 28; Sahil Madgaonkar three for 43, Suryakumar Yadav three for 22). Points: Manjrekar XI (four). Rangnekar XI (zero).

Vijay Merchant XI 199 & 323-5 decl. (Chandrasekhar Thate 53, Shalabh Agarwal 47, Rahul Tondulkar 68, Rohan Tendulkar 85, Rajeev Kamath 59) vs Dattu Phadkar XI 87 & 14 for no loss.
