Prarthana shocks Ankita

LUDHIANA: Prarthana Thombare of Maharashtra ousted top seed Ankita Raina of Gujarat 6-4, 6-4 in the under-16 girls’ semifinals of the National sub-junior tennis championship at the Harvest Tennis Academy (Jassowal) here on Thursday.

In the other semifinal, the national women’s finalist and second-seeded Shweta Chandra Rana beat fifth seed Smriti Joon, losing just five games.

The results:

Under-16 boys (semifinals): Ronit Bisht bt Vinod Gowda 6-2, 6-0; Digvijay Singh bt Rohit Bisht 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Doubles (final): Ronit Bisht & Rohit Bisht bt Digvijay Singh and N. Sai Karthik 6-1, 7-6(4).

Under-16 girls (semifinals): Prarthana Thombare bt Ankita Raina 6-4, 6-4; Shweta Chandra Rana bt Smriti Joon 6-1, 6-4.

Doubles (semifinals): Ankita Raina & Shweta Chandra Rana bt Amria Mukherjee & C. Sai Samhitha 6-2, 7-5; Smriti Joon & Pooja Narayana bt Namita Bal & Prarthana Thombare 7-6(3), 7-5.
