Double for Haseeb, Varshini

Coimbatore: Haseeb of Youngsters Table Tennis Academy knocked out club-mate Nandesh twice the same day and emerged the mini cadet and under-11 champion of the ‘Catch them Young’ table tennis tournament for the S.R. Jewellery and G.S. & Company rolling trophies at the YTTA Hall here recently.

Varshini, from the same club, did likewise defeating YTTA’s Sigappi to clinch the girls’ under-11 and sub-junior titles. Sigappi, however, gained sweet revenge over Varshini to pocket the under-16 title.

Singles:

Boys: Mini cadet: Haseeb (YTTA) bt Nandesh (YTTA) 12-10, 11-9.

Cadet: Harshan (Tirupur) bt Hari Prasanna (Tirupur) 12-10, 16-14, 1-11, 11-5. Under-11: Haseeb bt Nandesh 11-6, 11-9.

Sub-junior: Vikas (YTTA) bt Srinivasan (KTVR) 12-10, 9-11, 11-3, 11-9. U-16: Sailesh (YTTA) bt Vikas 11-6, 11-2, 11-8. U-19: Vikrant John Abraham (PSG Tech) bt Sailesh 11-9, 4-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3.

Girls: U-11: Varshini (YTTA) bt Sigappi (YTTA) 11-3, 9-11, 12-10, 14-12. Sub-junior: Varshini bt Sigappi 11-8, 11-8, 11-7. U-16: Sigappi bt Varshini 11-6, 11-9, 11-1. U-19: Meenakshi (PSG CAS) bt Thapasia (VLB) 11-3, 13-11, 8-11, 11-5.

Doubles: Boys: Sub-junior: Siddharth & Srinivas (KTVR) bt Sasidhar & Hari Prasanna (Tirupur) 14-12, 11-6. U-16: Sailesh & Ajith (YTTA) bt Siddharth & Srinivas 10-12, 13-11, 11-6. U-19: Sailesh & Ajith bt Vimalesh & Vikrant John 11-7, 12-10, 11-8.

Girls: U-19: Meenakshi & Thapasia (YTTA) bt Thenammai & Subaidhitha (Presentation) 11-6, 12-10.

Mixed doubles: Meenakshi & Vikrant bt Varshini & Mohandas 11-8, 11-7.
CDFA league

The Coimbatore District Football Association’s first division league will be held at the Nehru Stadium from November 14 to December 4. Twelve teams will battle it out for the top spot.
Tiruchi in last eight

Hari Shanmuga Sundaram scored a brace in Tiruchi’s 4-0 win over Tuticorin in the pre-quarterfinals of the T.P. Ramaswamy Cup under-19 State-level football tournament in Chennai on Thursday. Tiruchi will take on Chennai in the quarterfinals on Friday.

The result: Tiruchi 4 (Hari Shanmuga Sundaram 2, Selvakumar, Saravana Kumar) bt Tuticorin 0.
