Furthering research: Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University H.S. Ballal inaugurating a workshop on ‘Mitochondrial research and medicine’ in Manipal. Manipal: Director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, Lalji Singh said on Wednesday that it was necessary to spread the knowledge of mitochondrial diseases and their implications. He was speaking at the inaugural function of three-day Indo-U.S. workshop on “Mitochondrial research and medicine” organised by Manipal Life Sciences Centre (MLSC), a constituent of Manipal University, Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and The Indian Society for Mitochondria Research and Medicine (INMIT), here. Dr. Singh said that Manipal University had one of the best medical colleges and biotechnology department in the country. Having expertise in both clinical and basic sciences was a great strength in conducting clinical research. The workshop would serve as a platform for interaction between clinicians and the basic scientists in discussing recent trends in research, diagnosis and treatment of mitochondrial disorders, he said.
