Stranded boy rescued

Staff Reporter

Sivakumar

Tirupur: A 10-year-old boy who was stranded at Erode railway station was rescued and rehabilitated at a children’s home situated in Tirupur on Wednesday.

Railway police sources said that Sivakumar, a native of Raichur in Andhra Pradesh, was found onboard a Kerala-bound train at Erode station on Wednesday morning.

“The child had escaped from home in search of job,” sources added.

The railway police formally handed over Sivakumar to the volunteers of SAVE, a non- governmental organisation operating a rescue home for abandoned children in Tirupur city.

Later, Sivakumar told ‘The Hindu’ that he came along with his mother till some stations away before missing her. “Till recently, she has been working in our native town as a domestic servant after my father deserted the family. She has been heading to Kerala in search of work,” he said.

SAVE sources said that the child would be given education at one of the special schools run by the National Child Labour Project.
