KANNUR: The new central bus terminal developed here on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis will be inaugurated by Local Self-Government Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty at a function on the premises of the terminal on November 16. Municipal chairman B.P. Farooque said here on Thursday that the bus terminal built on the 6.35 acre land at Thavakkara by K.K. Builders on the BOT basis was completed at an estimated cost of over Rs. 30 crore. The project report had been prepared by the ICICI-Kinfra. The chairman said that the new terminal had five blocks including the main terminal block, three commercial blocks and a guest house block. AmenitiesThe project included 20-metre wide approach roads connecting mains roads in the municipality, around 50 bus bays, basic amenities for passengers, dormitory facilities exclusively for women passengers, rest rooms for workers, lodging rooms with star facilities, waste water treatment plant and parking slots, among other facilities. The chairman said that the Local Self-Government Minister would formally inaugurate the bus terminal at 11 a.m. Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan would open the guest house and the shopping complex. A.P. Abdullakutty, MP, and K. Sudhakaran, MLA, would also participate at the inaugural function, he announced.
