KANCHEEPURAM: The police have seized three lorries including a vehicle without registration number, for transporting illegally quarried sand. According to police, a team from the Padalam police station intercepted a lorry plying near Pilapur on the banks of the Palar river around 5 p.m. on Tuesday. On seeing the police team, the driver and another person abandoned the vehicle laden with river sand and took to their heels. Earlier, the same police party intercepted another lorry at Pilapur around 7 a.m. on Tuesday and found that sand was being transported from the Palar without valid bills. The cleaner of the lorry, Manickam of Pilapur, was arrested. Both the lorries seized at Pilapur were handed over to the Salavakkam police who have registered cases. Meanwhile, a team from the Chengalpattu taluk police station intercepted a lorry laden with sand at Manapakkam near Chengalpattu and found that the vehicle was used for transporting illegally quarried sand from the Palar. The lorry owner, Velan of Ozhalur, and driver Dhayanidhi of Ozhalur were arrested, police said.
