Table Tennis
Tirupur: Chennai’s Sivananda Seshadri and U.V. Agni will start as top seeds in the men’s and women’s section respectively in the Tamil Nadu State table tennis championship, which begins at the Samiti Hall here on November 15. Seshadri has also taken the top slot in the youth boys’ category, while A.V. Nivedita and Agni will start one-two in the girls’ section. The two-day championship, organised by the Tirupur Table Tennis Club, has attracted about 500 players from across Tamil Nadu. International players such as G. Sathiyan (the current Commonwealth youth champion), R.S. Raja, A. Rajath Kamal, R. Rajesh, R. Abishek, A.V. Nivedita (former international) and N. Arul Selvi in the senior section and R. Venkataraman, N. Vidya, V. Sneha and K.K. Narmadha in the junior section have confirmed their participation for the championship. The prize money, up for grabs, will be Rs. 80,000, which will be shared by the top 16 in each category. The Tamil Nadu team for the Nationals will also be selected from this championship. — Sports Reporter
