Punjab announces sugarcane price

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government on Wednesday announced State Assured Price (SAP) of sugarcane at Rs 155-165 per quintal for the 2008-09 crushing season and at 170-180 per quintal for 2009-10 season.

State Agriculture Minister Sucha Singh Langah announced the SAP of sugarcane during a meeting of the Sugarcane Control Board presided over by the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. He said that the price of the advanced, medium and late variety of sugarcane had been fixed at Rs 165, Rs 160 and Rs 155 per quintal for the crushing season of 2008-2009. Likewise, the prices of these varieties had been fixed at Rs 180, Rs 175 and Rs 170 per quintal for the crushing season of year 2009-2010.

He hoped that with an increase of SAP the sugar industry both in private as well as cooperative sector would be benefitted along with the cane growers.

The Minister urged the farmers to bring more area under quality sugarcane cultivation.PTI
