Satisfying end to career: Ganguly

KOLKATA: “A career has to end at some point of time but it is satisfying that my career concluded on a winning note,” said Sourav Ganguly in a news conference after returning home on Tuesday evening.

“A sportsperson has to call it a day at some point of his career, it has happened to Gavaskar, Pele, Maradona and Sampras. Sourav Ganguly’s name just got added to it,” he said.

“It is more gratifying that I could personally contribute well in the team’s victory in the series win against the No. 1 team in the world,” he added.

When asked to list the three most memorable events in his career, Ganguly said: “My first Test match, being chosen the Indian captain and the last series win against Australia.”

Ganguly said that it would take some time for him to get to terms with being called a former international cricketer.

“I am sure there will be lots of opportunities in the future but as of now I have not decided on anything,” he said.

“But I will definitely do something for the good of the game in future,” he added.

Ganguly said that he would be missing the companionship of his teammates.

Thing to cherish

“It is one thing that I will cherish all my life,” he said.

Commenting on the new generation of players he said, "they are very talented and it has to be seen how they transform their abilities into action.”

Earlier he returned home to a tumultuous welcome.

Thousands had thronged the Netaji Subhas International airport to have a glimpse of the region’s most successful cricketer.

Ganguly, who was received at the airport by the state’s Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya along with some other dignitaries, went straight to his home at Behala, in the western part of the metropolis.
