Pattara Swantons in final

KOCHI: Former Ranji star Ajay Kudua, with a half-century, and left-arm spinner K.R. Sreejith, with a three-wicket haul, hogged the limelight as Pattara Swantons CC (Ernakulam) defeated Army Nodal CC (Secunderabad) by 63 runs and entered the final of the 58th Maruti Homes Pooja all-India cricket tournament at the Tripunithura Palace Oval on Tuesday.

Swantons, which had made the main phase after winning one of the two berths in the qualifying tournament, topped the three-team Group ‘A’ and entered the final.

And crashing out were defending champion State Bank of Travancore (Thiruvananthapuram), which had lost to Swantons earlier, and Army Nodal CC.

The tournament resumes after a day’s break on Thursday with the Group ‘B’ matches. The group comprises Parry SRC (Chennai), Jolly Rovers (Coimbatore) and Oktopals CC (Thirussur).

The scores: Pattara Swantons CC 147 in 39.4 overs (Ajay Kudua 61, Rithish Negi four for 37) bt Army Nodal CC (Secunderabad) 84 in 28.5 overs. — Principal Correspondent
