Canadian police in Chandigarh for Kanishka probe

CHANDIGARH: A team of police personnel from Canada on Tuesday held talks with the top brass of Chandigarh police and CBI here in connection with the bombing of Air India flight ‘Kanishka’ in 1985.

The five-member team is on a visit to Chandigarh and Punjab to probe a few leads in connection with the incident in which 329 people on board the Toronto-Delhi Boeing 747 flight were killed.

The top brass of Chandigarh police remained tight lipped on the issue. However, police sources said the cops provided necessary cooperation to the Canadian team.

The team had confabulations for about 15-minute with IG S.K. Jain. – PTI

Corrections and Clarifications

A PTI report "Canadian police in Chandigarh for Kanishka probe" (November 12, 2008, page 1) said that the Air India flight was on the route "Toronto-Delhi". The flight route was Toronto-Montreal-London-Delhi-Bombay. The aircraft was destroyed over the Atlantic Ocean near Ireland while it was on the Montreal-London segment.
