Gauri claims first day’s honours

BANGALORE: Gauri Monga of Delhi Golf Club hogged the limelight on the opening day of the South India ladies amateur championship at the Bangalore Golf Club course here when she returned a card of 70 one over par to lead the pack in the gold division on Tuesday.

In the silver division, Renuka Philip was in lead with 81 gross while in bronze division, Sharada Rao hit the front with 93.

The tournament has attracted 77 participants from all over the country and the defending champion and local favourite Sharmila Nicolette is not participating.

The results (round one/top three):

Gold division (handicap 0-12): 1. Gauri Monga (70 ); 2. Mehar Atwal (73 ); 3. Shwetha Gowande (74 ).

Silver division (13-24): 1. Renuka Philip (81); 2. Nita Gowande (85); 3. Aruna Kulandaivel (85).

Bronze division (25-36): Sharda Rai (93); 2. Gomathi Rajaram (102); 3. Poornima (103).
