Jalandhar, Imphal teams in semifinals

GURGAON: Lyallpur Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar, beat Dhudiyal Khalsa Higher Secondary School, Patiala, 1-0 to qualify or the semifinals of the Nehru junior hockey tournament at the Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.

Joga Singh scored the match-winner in the 50th minute in this group ‘C’ super league match. This was the second straight win for the Jalandhar team. The match between Sri Lanka Schools XI and the Patiala team in this pool has now become inconsequential.

Young Pioneer English School, Imphal, beat Government Senior Secondary School, Jarkhar, Ludhiana, 5-0 to qualify for the last-four stage from group ‘B’.

Mayengbam Prem Chand, Moirang Bronson Singh, Khumantham Rabikanta (2) and Chanamathabam Dayananda were the scorers for the Manipur team.

Sat Guru Pratap Singh Academy, Sri Bhaini Sahib, drew with Birsa Munda Vidyapitha, Rourkela, 1-1 in a group ‘D’ match.

Harpreet Singh opened the scoring for the Ludhiana team in the 31st minute, while James Jidan Munda equalised 14 minutes later.
