COLOMBO: Sri Lanka on Tuesday said there were heavy clashes between the military and the LTTE in Kilinochchi as the military advanced north of Akkarayankulam. Security forces had established control over a part of the road between Tannimurippu-Kulam and Kumulamunai and continued their quest to enter the strategically-important township, Kumulamunai, located south of Mullathivu. Task Force-1 soldiers in the western half of the Kilinochchi front have “dominated” Palavi built-up area, which is vital as it provides the main access route to the LTTE from Veravil to Chempankundu. In a report posted on its website, the LTTE alleged that civilians were killed due to artillery fire in parts of Mullathivu and Kilinochchi.
