NEW DELHI: The Asom Gana Parishad has decided to talk with like-minded parties to launch an agitation against the Tarun Gogoi government but before that it intends to enter into a seat-sharing agreement for the Lok Sabha elections. The newly-elected president of AGP, Chandra Mohan Patwari, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in Assam Assembly, along with party MPs Arun Kumar Sarma, Sarbananda Sonowal and Birendra Prasad Baishya told journalists here on Tuesday that he would be holding talks with all non-Congress parties on November 15 to agitate for the ouster of the Gogoi government. To press their demand for the dismissal of the Assam government, the AGP submitted a memorandum to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on Monday saying that the State government had failed in rooting out the problem of terrorism and illegal migrants from Bangladesh. Mr. Patwari said the blasts last month underscored the fact that the State was not safe under this government. It was becoming a threat to the security and sovereignty of the country. He accused both the State and the Central governments of mortgaging national interest for vote-bank politics. He wondered why no action had been taken against illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators. On the political front, the AGP expressed its determination to defeat the Congress in the Lok Sabha election by entering into a seat-sharing arrangement with the BJP in particular and other regional parties. The arrangement was likely to be formally announced on Thursday. At the same time, it was against aligning with the BJP as a constituent of the NDA as it did not want to hurt its constituents, including its traditional Muslim supporters. Mr. Patwari held discussions with JDU chief Sharad Yadav on Monday.
