Tension grips Assam towns

Guwahati: Tension gripped Kokrajhar, Baksa and Udalguri as cadres of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) prevented police from entering the outfit’s camp in Baksa, the Assam government said on Tuesday.

The police were searching for suspects in the October 30 serial blasts in the State.

‘Baseless’

Security forces encircled the three NDFB camps in the three towns since Monday night after the Special Investigation Team, probing the terror attack, obtained vital leads pointing to the involvement of the NDFB cadres in the serial blasts.

The NDFB described the allegation as false and baseless. The United Liberation Front of Asom has alleged that the serial blasts were the handiwork of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

In a statement issued by ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa, the outfit claimed that a secret directive purportedly circulated by the RSS to its units in Assam had the indication of an attack like the October 30 serial blasts and communal clashes in Darrang and Udalguri.

Mr. Rajkhowa said that there was no guarantee that “religious jehadis” would not carry out a similar attack.

Mr. Rajkhowa said ULFA was committed to oppose religious fundamentalism and resist all forms of terrorist acts in the name of religious fundamentalism.
