Making a point: Registrar of KLE University, Belgaum, P.F. Kotur, addressing students in Haveri on Tuesday. Haveri: National Education Day, which marks the birth anniversary of the country’s first Education Minister Moulana Abul Kalam Azad was celebrated at Gudleppa Hallikeri College here on Tuesday. Addressing a gathering , Registrar of KLE University, Belgaum, P.F. Kotur recalled the contribution of Azad, who he said, ranked among the builders of modern India and was among the top freedom fighters who dedicated his life to liberate India from colonial rule. “Azad was not only enlightened, erudite, wise and humble, but was also a man who often led from the front and set personal examples for others. He was forceful, truthful and a fearless Satyagrahi and was a fighter against oppression and injustice”, he said. Presiding over the function, S.S. Anurshettar said that Azad’s firm belief in Hindu-Muslim unity earned him the respect of the Hindu community and he still remained one of the most important symbols of communal harmony in modern India.
