‘Withdraw decision to ban taxis on highways’

Correspondent

Karwar: Members of the Taxi and Maxi Cab Owners’ Association of Uttara Kannada submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to the Deputy Commissioner here on Monday.

Memorandum

In the memorandum, the association expressed shock over the decision of the Government to ban taxis and maxi cabs on national highways and roads in rural areas. More than 1,800 families of owners and drivers, who were depending on taxis and maxi cabs in the district, would become jobless if the Government implemented its ban order.

The association urged the Government not to go ahead with its decision.

The association appealed to the Government not to increase the taxes on vehicles and fix tax based on “Tamil Nadu model”.

The association urged the Chief Minister to pay compensation to the kin of drivers and owners of taxis and maxi cabs from the Chief Minister’s Fund in case of accidents and deaths.

President of the association Ganesh Naik, secretary Nagaraj Yaji, and other office-bearers Kishor Naik, Sitaram Shetty, and Arun Talekar were present.
