“India is an important partner of the U.S.”

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: President-elect Barack Obama considers India an important and strategic partner and therefore India-U.S. economic relations will continue to thrive under him, U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce Israel Hernandez said here on Monday.

“The fact that the President-elect in his statements has mentioned India as an important and strategic country, speaks for itself. Strong economic relations with growing countries like India are crucial for moving forward in the 21st century,” he said addressing a press conference here.

Team in India

Mr. Hernandez, who is also the Director-General of the U.S. Commercial Service, is visiting India with a team of 13 small and medium firms’ representatives on a trade mission.

The U.S. delegation will travel to different Indian cities and hold meetings with various trade groups and senior officials.
