Man held for posing as naxalite to extort money

BANGALORE: The Yelahanka New Town police arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly posing as a naxalite leader and attempting to extort money from Yelahanka MLA Vishwanath.

According to police, Ravi (28), a resident of PWD quarters in Yelahanka New Town, called Mr. Vishwanath on Sunday and introduced himself as naxalite leader Dharmaraj and demanded Rs. 75,000, failing which he would kill him and his family members. He sent at SMS message to Mr. Vishwanath to bring the money on Monday to a specified address by 10 a.m. The police tracked Ravi’s mobile phone and arrested him at the PWD Quarters in Yelahanka New Town.

Accidents

Two construction labourers who were on a motorcycle were killed when their vehicle was knocked down by a multi-utility vehicle near Begur Lake on Sunday night. The police said Manjunath (32) and Yellappa (30), both from Begur village, were returning from work.

Manjunath, who was driving the vehicle and Yellappa, who was riding pillion, were killed on the spot.

The driver of the multi-utility vehicle is reportedly at large. The Electronics City traffic police have registered a case.

Arjun Bapu Thermal (26), a businessman, was killed when he was hit by a car while he as talking with his friend who was on his way to catch a flight to Dubai on Sunday night. The accident occurred near Manjari Apartment on Sarjapur Road.

According to police, Arjun and three others were speaking to their friend who was sitting in a taxi. A van went past them and hit Arjun and Rosel Darkim (26). Arjun died while he was being moved to St. John’s Hospital. Ms. Darkim was treated at St. John’s Hospital and was discharged.

Manjunath (28) was killed when the motorcycle he was riding on was hit by a vehicle near MVIT gate on Bangalore-Bellary Road on Sunday night. Manjunath, a resident of Ejipura, was returning home along with his friend Ramesh (30).

Manjunath was killed on the spot, while Ramesh sustained injuries.

Santosh (25) of Sadashivanagar 9th Cross was killed when the scooter he was riding on was knocked down by a vehicle near M.S. Ramaiah Hospital on New BEL Road.
