Five-year-old run over by lorry

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A five-year-old girl was crushed under the wheels of a lorry transporting a borewell rig while two other children survived, thanks to the presence of mind of a neighbour.

Tension prevailed following the accident which occurred near Lowry Memorial School in K.R. Puram around 5.15 p.m. on Monday. Madhumathi, a UKG student of Lowry Memorial School, was going home when the lorry knocked her down, killing her on the spot. The victim was the daughter of a labourer, Mahadev in Akash Nagar near A. Narayana Pura in K.R. Puram.

Madhumathi was walking with two girls, Shruthi (10) and Thrisa (7), and her neighbour, Sheeba, who casually fell in step with the children, suddenly spotted the killer truck and managed to drag two of the girls out of its path.

“The truck knocked down Madhumathi,” said a senior officer of K.R. Puram traffic police station. The driver abandoned the lorry and fled.
