KOCHI: The regional office of the Central Board of Secondary Education has directed the management of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan that the revision of fees in the future should be in consultation with the parents’ representatives before the commencement of the academic session. The directive was issued on a Kerala High Court order to the CBSE after Bhavans Schools Parents’ Association filed a writ petition, said Thomas Abraham, convenor of the association here at a press conference on Monday. Mr. Abraham claimed that the CBSE order had exposed the fact that the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan school management had no yardstick in fixing the fees. Each school should have a proper mechanism to decide the fees and they should be commensurate with the facilities in each school, said a copy of the CBSE order issued to the media during the press conference. There are also other directives to the school management: The rates of tuition fees, other annual charges and budget of the schools should be presented by the principal of the school and submitted to the school management committee for review. Each school has also been directed to adhere to by-law 11 of affiliation with reference to the fees. No capitation fee or donation should be collected from the parents. The income of a particular school should be used in that school only, one of the CBSE directives said. It also said that the number of students in each class should be strictly restricted to 40.
