HYDERABAD: An innovative experiment by the students of the Andhra Mahila Sabha—P.Obul Reddy School to identify and evaluate an imminent tsunami earned them a place in National level Science Exhibition at New Delhi. The project titled ‘Controlling the tidal giant—Tsunami identification, evaluation and revival system’ was chosen at the regional level of the CBSE Science Exhibition held at Chennai to be displayed at national level. The device designed by V. Sri Harsha, V. Jeevan and G. Krishna Sumanth from Class X used a seismic vibrator deployed on the ocean bed in tsunami-prone areas to calculate the speed of the tides. DAV Public School A model United Nations conference was organised at DAV Public School in Safilguda on October 24 to mark the UNO Day. Students from 11 schools participated in the conference that gave insights into the traditional style of functioning by the UN Assembly. Agenda of the conference was religious intolerance. D.A.V. Public School was also stage for the interschool solo folk dance competition organised in memory of Sarala Chopra by Avantika, a group of contemporary artistes and intellectuals, on November 5. Fifteen schools from across the State participated in the contest and won prizes. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Public School Finding heights of the distant objects using Trigonometry, low cost models of smoke box, and preparation of bio-fertilisers constituted part of the 14 exhibits by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Public School’s students at the Science and Mathematics Exhibition by ‘Byrraju Foundation’. The exhibition was organised on October 21 on the occasion of Byrraju Foundation National Seminar on School Education, and had former President of India A.P.J.Abdul Kalam as the Chief Guest. About hundred students with fifty projects from across the State participated in the exhibition. Gitanjali Devshala Gitanjali Devshala at Secunderabad celebrated its Annual Day on November 6. Children from pre-primary sections performed a ballet on environment while it was ‘Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves’ by the primary school students. Those from the senior sections enthralled audience with music from the movie ‘Sound of the Music’. Mexican, Indian and lambada dances, rock music and patriotic songs added colour to the day. Chief guest and Director General, Fire and Emergency Services Aruna Bahuguna praised the students and appreciated the ballet ‘Uduta Bhakti’ by the differently-abled children and the skit on ‘Child Labour’ by the primary section.
