Initiative to conserve power School notes

The Panayapilly Government High School that distributed khadi uniforms to its students, is leading by example by taking steps to reduce the consumption of electricity. Since the uniforms are made of khadi, the teachers have told the students that there is no need to iron the clothes, said A. Vijayakumara Warrier, school headmaster. The initiative to popularise khadi comes from Mukesh Jain, social activist who has been striving for child rights.

The Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, is all set to host the 15th Bhavan’s Cultural Fest – South Zone. Over 2,000 students from 30 schools will perform in 15 venues on November 21 and 22, said the principal Renuka N. Menon. The initiation ceremony – kalunattukarmam, was done by T.L. Vishwanatha Iyer, chairman of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

The 16th State level house plan drawing competition for school students, organised by Yasoram Charitable Trust, was held recently in Kochi.

The theme of the competition was to draw a plan and elevation for a single-storey house with 1,000 to 1,100-sq.ft area. Eleven students from LP section, 22 from UP and 23 from high school participated. The best three drawings will be given awards.
