Letters to the Editor
A letter in these columns (November 8) said, “not once did he [Barack Obama] speak like an African-American; he did not describe his victory as a victory over racism alone. He spoke like a true American who wants to usher in change.” Does the writer imply that African-Americans do not want change and that they have a special way of speaking that is unlike a true American? Further, the letter imposes a particular view on African-Americans, that they worry exclusively over racism. The writer has taken African-Americans right out of the American mainstream, better than any racist could have ever done. Raghuram Ekambaram, Delhi
