Canadian government has relaxed immigration laws

Students can work for 3 years after graduation
Students offered total medical care, scholarships

HYDERABAD: The Canadian University Application Centre (CUAC) is welcoming Indian students to Canada with open arms.

And with the Canadian government relaxing the immigration laws for the benefit of international students, they are now permitted to stay and work in Canada for up to three years after their graduation, with or without a job offer.

Many of them are also assured permanent citizenship after this three year period, said Mel Broitman, Managing Director, CUAC, at a press conference on Monday. Students could also take up work while studying through their Co-op Education, who would later be absorbed directly into various industries with a sound pay package.

And it doesn’t stop at this. Students were also being offered complete medical care apart from scholarships, he said and added that the tuition fee and cost of living was much lesser compared to U.S.

3 lakh people

Mr. Broitman said the Canadian government was looking at permitting 3 lakh new people every year, including students.

TOEFL, GRE

While TOEFL was not mandatory for undergraduate students, many universities do demand a GRE score, he said. Scores of students thronged the meeting where representatives of Canadian Universities like University of Windsor, University of Guelph, University of Victoria, Saint Mary’s University and Algoma University were present.

Asha Shankar, in charge, CUAC office, Hyderabad, said many courses such as Masters of Computer Games Technology, Masters in Biotechnology, MBA and Psychology etc., were in great demand by Indian students.

“There are a few universities in Canada unlike in USA and all of them provide quality education as well as research opportunities,” said Justin Kohlman, Director of Marketing, University of Victoria.
