Kumaraswamy takes charge as State JD(S) president

Bangalore: The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday took charge as president of the State unit of the Janata Dal (Secular). The post fell vacant with the death of N. Merajuddin Patel.

Among those present at the JD(S) headquarters for the function were national party president H.D. Deve Gowda, working president C. Narayanaswamy and the former Ministers N. Cheluvarayaswamy and Zameer Ahmed.

The former Chief Minister said the JD(S) rank and file would be made to feel motivated ahead of the coming byelections to the Legislative Assembly from eight constituencies and to face the Lok Sabha elections. “A party workers’ convention will be held in Bangalore on November 17. The convention will showcase the strength of the party.”

He said the BJP Government in the State had failed on several fronts, including power supply, largely due to the inefficiency of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. “The people of the State have been kept in the dark. There is hardly any development work, and most of the so-called welfare schemes have remained on paper. The BJP Government will be exposed in the near future,” Mr. Kumaraswamy said.
