ALAPPUZHA: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said the government would take stringent action to curb the functioning of illegal and unrecognised Ayurveda centres in the State. Inaugurating a free Ayurveda Clinic of the Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala at Tharayilkadavu in the tsunami-hit panchayat of Arattupuzha on the southern tip of the Alappuzha coast, Mr. Achuthanandan said several illegal clinics were misusing the demand for Ayurveda to run sex rackets. ‘Ensure quality’The government would implement existing laws to tackle such miscreants to ensure that the age-old traditions of Ayurveda were not put to shame. Steps would also be initiated to bring about quality standards for Ayurvedic medicines, he said. The Arya Vaidya Sala, a century-old reputed name in the field of Ayurveda, has set up the clinic with a full-time doctor as an extension of the charity hospital set up at Kottakkal in 1902 by its founder Vaidyaratnam P.S. Warrier. ClinicThe clinic at Arattupuzha will be run in association with the Arattupuzha grama panchayat and the Alappuzha district administration. District Collector V.K. Balakrishnan, officials of the Arya Vaidya Sala and a host of other dignitaries were present at the function.
