Sir, — The Rajyotsava celebrations in Belgaum and Gulbarga witnessed some untoward incidents, which should not be allowed to gain momentum as they are a threat to the integrity of the State. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa should address the problem of regional imbalance and try to implement the Nanjundappa Committee recommendations so that the people of that region do not feel neglected. There is no point in merely announcing packages or sanctioning funds for these districts. Inamdar Ramachandra, Bangalore ComplimentsSir, — Kanakadasa, a 16th century saint, poet, philosopher and social reformer, was a contemporary of Purandaradasa. He belonged to the backward Kuruba community and was denied the darshan of Krishna by the upper caste at Krishna temple in Udupi. Kanakadasa then went to the rear side of the temple and prayed with immense devotion. According to the legend, the deity turned around, broke the rear wall of the temple to enable Kanakadasa to have His darshan. Even to this day, devotees have to take the darshan of Krishna through Kanakana Kindi. It is laudable that the State Government has decided to declare November 15 a general holiday to celebrate the birth anniversary of Kanakadasa with pomp and gaiety. M. Umesh Mysore DTH free channelsSir, — In the DTH free channels, instead of adding new channels, some channels have been dropped from the package. For instance, channels such as Aaj Tak, Zee Jagran, Jain TV and Zee Music have been dropped. Kannada, Telugu and Marathi languages have one channel each whereas Tamil and Malayalam have four channels each. I request the Ministry to restore the channels which have been dropped and add two more channels for Kannada. Madhukar Rao Joshi Gulbarga Power cutsSir, — It is intriguing that immediately after the inauguration of a 500 MW power plant at Bellary, the power shortage has increased and the supply companies have resorted to heavy power cuts in Mysore and elsewhere. There may be difficulty in balancing the supply and demand but what the people are wondering is whether the problem is being managed properly. I request the authorities to schedule the power cuts and inform the public who will adjust their daily routine accordingly. There can be savings by regulating the streetlight starting time and limiting the timings for illumination of hoardings, neon light advertisements, etc. New decorative lights put up at several junctions need not be switched on. The power supply companies may also call for suggestions from the public. S.N. Surya Narayan, Mysore
