Revisiting Emden

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Government Museum in Egmore will host a month-long exhibition on ‘Emden,’ a German warship that bombed the oil installations at the Chennai Harbour in 1914. The exhibition, organised by the Anthropology section , will showcase fragments of the exploded bombs. It will be opened on Monday.

Emden was built in 1908. It bombed the oil installations set up by the British at the harbour on the night of September 22, 1914. Another bomb from it fell on the wall of Chennai High Court and a third one fell opposite Fort St. George but did not explode, a release said.
