MADURAI: A human chain was organised as part of the awareness campaign during the third anniversary of the Right to Information Act. The human chain is preceded by many events across the State as part of a 10-day awareness campaign.In Madurai, the campaign took place at Tirumangalam, Usilampatti,Vadipatti and Madurai South and North Taluk offices. Right to Information Act 2005 refers to the right of every citizen to access information held by or under the control of public authorities. M. Jeeva of Tamil Nadu Right to Information Campaign said that in order to take it to the wider social world, the human chain was formed as part of a mass awareness campaign. This campaign on RTI assumes importance when it was made to reach the masses and disseminate basic information on the Act and how to use it. N. Nanmaran, MLA, Madurai East participated in the human chain. Members of voluntary service organisations, women’s movements, trade unions, students’ organisations, and human rights organisations also participated.
