Labour India in a league of its own

KOCHI: Labour India Public School, Kottayam, was in a league of its own as it retained the overall team title in the State CBSE schools athletics championship at the Maharaja’s Stadium here on Sunday evening.

Labour India, had a 300-point lead over its nearest rival, Chinmaya Vidyalaya (Vaduthala, Ernakulam).

However, the fight for the second to seventh positions was very close. St Peter’s (Kolencherry)finished third while VSSC Central School (Thumba) and Ansar English School (Perumpilavu) took the next two spots.

The winners: Boys, under-19: 200m: Hashim Abdurahiman (Peevees, Nilambur) 23.4s. 800m: P. H. Mohammed Arif (Arafa ES, Thrissur) 2:4.5s NMR, OR Aji Paul, CRS, Ambalamugal, 2:8.5, 2002. Triple jump: K. P. Mansoor (Ansar, Perumpilavu) 12.65m. Shot put: Joseph K. James (Labour India, Ktm) 11.54m. Under-16: 200m: Nikhil Soman (Labour India, Ktm) 24.4s. 800m: C. S. Abhay Dev (Labour India, Ktm) 2:14.1s. Under-14: 200m: Rohit Tony (Chinmaya, Vaduthala) 25.4s. 800m: Bijo Thomas (Labour India, Ktm) 2:15s.

Girls: under-19: 200m: Reshma Sara Raji (VSSC CS, Tvm) 27.7s. Triple jump: Reethu Mathew (Labour India, Ktm) 10.19m. Discus: Jewel Jacob (MG, Ambadimala, Ekm) 22m. Under-16: 200m: Stephy John (Labour India, Ktm) 27.1s. Javelin: Abis Yimmuang (Peevees, Nilambur) 22.91m. Under-14: 200m: K. V. Sai Preethi (VSSC CS, Thumba, Tvm) 28.1s. 4x400m relay: Labour India, Ktm (4:42.2s NMR, OR own, 4:44.28). Discus: Dayana P. Ashok (Labour India, Ktm) 20.71m EMR.

Overall championship: 1. Labour India Public School, Marangattuppilly, Kottayam (406 pts), 2. Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala (104), 3. St. Peter’s Senior Secondary School, Kolencherry (86), 4. VSSC Central School, Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram (83), 5. Ansar English School, Perumpilavu (80).
