MADURAI: Additional police force deployed in Uthapuram has been withdrawn, as normality has returned in the village and the surrounding pockets, said Deputy-Inspector General of Police (Madurai Range) S.S.Krishnamoorthy here on Sunday. Speaking to reporters, he said about 450 Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) personnel were still posted to keep watch in the area, he added. The police have registered 14 cases, involving 1,600 persons under various IPC Sections. So far, the special teams had arrested 140 persons in connection with the offences. The district administration would soon form a peace committee comprising responsible members from all sections of the village. This would facilitate in redressing problems or grievances that may arise in future, Mr Krishnamoorthy said and added that the kumbhabishekam to the Muthalamman temple would be held only after the peace committee decided on the issue. Superintendent of Police M.Manohar said buses were plying to and from Uthapuram and the surrounding areas. Schools in the locality too were functioning.
