Karwar: Members of the Dandeli City Municipal Council on Saturday objected to the work on a drain take up without bringing it to their notice. At a meeting here, member Adam Desur sought clarification in this regard from project officer K.K. Chauhan. Members expressed shock when council president Yasmin Kittur said that she was also not aware of the work. Member Ramalinga said that many shopkeepers in the town had encroached upon government land and urged the council to take action against them. But some members objected to it and said the matter was in the court. Most of the buildings in Dandeli had been constructed on encroached land, they said. The members urged the council to take action against a contract for substandard civil work. Such contractors should be black listed, they said. The council urged the CMC Commissioner to select beneficiaries for benefits under the 18 scheme and distribute computers and autorickshaws at the earliest. The council passed a resolution to issue notice to the contractor, who maintains street lights, to improve the quality of work in two months.
