Idea is to ensure jobs for educated youth in semi-urban areas: Kanimozhi, MP

Vellore fair facilitated jobs for at least 17,000 aspirants in different industries

MADURAI: As many as 32,300 youth registered their names for the job fair in Virudhunagar district scheduled for November 20 and 21, said Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi in Virudhunagar on Sunday.

Speaking at a orientation programme, Ms. Kanimozhi said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had been conducting job fairs — ‘Kalaignar 85’ — in different parts of the State as part of its president’s 85th birthday celebrations.

Handlooms Minister K. K. S. S. R. Ramachandran and School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu participated in the programme held at K.V.S. Middle School.

Ms. Kanimozhi said that after the DMK assumed office in 2006, the government had introduced a slew of welfare schemes for the masses, provided avenues for opening up new companies that would offer employment to the youth and attract foreign direct investments to a great extent.

Keeping in mind the need to ensure that educated youth in semi-urban areas also got attractive jobs as their counterparts in urban and metropolitan areas, they had been conducting such job fairs.

The fair held at Vellore district facilitated jobs to at least 17,000 aspirants in different industries, she pointed out and added that about 300 companies are expected to participate in the Virudhunagar job fair.

Identity cards issued

According to Ms. Kanimozhi, 6,000 youths have registered their names for the job fair in Virudhunagar, 4,324 in Sattur, 4,073 in Aruppukottai, 6,128 in Sivakasi, 5,498 in Srivilliputtur, 6,040 in Rajapalayam and 396 candidates in Kariapatti. The applicants were issued identity cards which should be produced at the job fair, she said.
