Ragging: two engineering students held
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Two final year engineering students of S.S. Institute of Technology, Dundigal, had been arrested in a case of ragging reported at Kukatpally, six days ago.
While the arrested students, Lahari Nath and Karunakar, were remanded in judicial custody, four more students allegedly involved in the incident were yet to be identified, Kukatpally SI Srinivas told reporters on Saturday.
According to him, the arrested duo, along with four classmates, ragged first year student Naresh Reddy while he was going to his hostel in the college bus on October 31.
The group of students continued to rag Reddy by passing lewd comments even as he alighted at Addagutta near HMT colony and headed for his hostel.
An argument ensued as the first year student raised objection. “The six students then beat up Reddy resulting in injuries to him,” the SI said.
Three days later, Reddy’s parents lodged a complaint with the Kukatpally police. A case of ragging and assault was registered against the six senior students. Reddy went to his village in Anantapur and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bangalore. Action would be initiated against the other students after Reddy identifies them, the police said.
