BERHAMPUR: Special project under Swarnajayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) would be taken up taken up in Gajapati and Koraput districts along with Ganjam in the State informed the Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Chandrasekhar Sahu. He said the SGSY was a major project of the Union Rural Development Ministry to provide employment to rural youth of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families during a function organised in the city to inaugurate a training programme under the scheme on Friday evening. This function was also attended by the State Cabinet Minister, Suryanarayan Patro. The objective of the SGSY was to uplift them above poverty line by providing them income generating assets. Fifteen per cent of the allocation under SGSY is set for special projects. “These special projects are time bound efforts to uplift a specific number of youths of BPL families of a specific area. “These special projects can cost up to Rs. 15 crore ”, Mr. Sahu said. Mr. Sahu said at present 236 such special projects were active throughout the country by the Central Rural Development Ministry. These projects have been taken up with the help of NGOs. In Orissa Jagruti foundation is the partner of the Ministry for the Projects under SGSY to be taken up in Koraput, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
