NEW DELHI: A businessman was shot at and robbed of his belongings by two men on a motorcycle in Chandni Chowk here on Saturday morning. Ashok Pal, who deals in electronic goods, arrived in New Delhi from Allahabad by train in the morning along with a friend, Shamsuddin, who is also a businessman. They took a cycle-rickshaw to go to the Walled City to make some purchases. Around 8 a.m., they were passing by Nai Sarak when two men on motorcycle came from behind and tried to snatch a bag from Ashok Pal at gun-point. Ashok offered resistance, at which one of the assailants shot at him from close range, injuring him in the stomach, and snatched away a bag from him that did not contain any valuable or cash, the police said. The assailants then drove away. The rickshaw puller rushed the injured businessman to Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan Hospital where he was operated upon. The police were subsequently informed of the incident. The police have registered a case of attempt to murder and are questioning Shamsuddin to find out about the assailants. Eyewitnesses told the police that the culprits were wearing helmets.
