KOLKATA: Chirag United defeated Mohammedan Sporting 1-0 in the seventh round of the I-League match at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Saturday. Striker Gauranga Dutta scored the match-clincher in the 61st minute to lift his team to its second victory and log eight points. Sporting tasted its third defeat and stayed on six points.The goal was the handiwork of Snehasish Chakraborty whose chip from the left enabled Subair Muritala Ali to chest the ball down on the path of Dutta. The latter shot an angular left-footed volley that beat the Sporting goaltender Tharangachan. The match winner apart the teams had scoring chances but all of them were wasted. Sporting’s Mike Okoro’s effort in the 17th minute was saved by rival custodian Gopal Das. — Special Correspondent
