Unique way of choosing spouses

KORAPUT: Phul Jatra, the festival of tribal community was celebrated at Biriguda in Laxmipur block on Saturday. While mother earth was worshiped during the day-long festival, the main attraction was the tradition of Uduliya is the traditional way of choosing life partners by the youths, Prakash Senapati, a researcher from Laxmipur said.

Young boys and girls meet in the festival and hold the hand of the life partner whom they choose for themselves.

Later the parents of the girls have to search for their daughter for the next few days and initiate the procedure leading to the marriage of their wards, he added.

A large number of people had gathered from the neighbouring villages for the festival .
